What Figurepedia Is

Figurepedia covers the manufacturers behind the anime figure hobby: who they are, how they work, and what collectors need to know. We dig into their history, craftsmanship, product lines, and the practical details that help you make better buying decisions.

The companies behind your collection have decades of artistry and innovation behind them. But until now, that knowledge has been scattered across hundreds of sources in multiple languages. Figurepedia brings it together in one place.

Figures deserve the same serious attention as any other art form. That kind of respect is not handed down by museums or critics. It comes from the craft itself: sculpting, painting, imagination, and care put into every release.

How We Work

Research begins with official and primary sources where available, then uses collector databases, retailer records, and independent reporting to fill gaps and cross-check claims.

We also check every article for tone and fairness. If a manufacturer read their own page, we want them to feel it was honest and well-informed. If a collector read it before buying, we want them to feel better prepared.

Behind the Project

Figurepedia is led by Figure Hakase, a collector and researcher based in Canada. Hakase holds a graduate degree in arts education and has spent over 15 years teaching digital design and visual arts at the post-secondary level. His day job is helping students see what makes a piece of visual work succeed or fail.

A great film has its lead actors, but it also has a director, writers, and a whole crew. Figures are the same kind of group effort. Thousands of hours of sculpting and design work go into each release, and on top of that, these companies have built production systems that can reproduce that detail at production scale. Figurepedia exists to give those people and companies the recognition they deserve, not just the characters they bring to life.

Hakase started collecting the way most people do: picking up figures of characters he loved without paying much attention to who made them. It was only after slowing down and looking closer that the manufacturers themselves became interesting. Each company had its own philosophy and its own strengths. Figurepedia grew out of that curiosity, and it is still growing.
