From fantasy creature mounts to Journey to the West heroes
Fish Toys enters English-language collector listings through a catalog still weighted toward animals. The US retailer BigBadToyStore files the label as Fish Toys (D20studio) and, when checked, grouped 13 products under it, including five Wilderness Series horse variants. Horses and wolves dominate, with one armor accessory also listed. Then came Ji Le Xi Hang, a line that puts characters from the classic novel Journey to the West into the same articulated, display-minded format as the animals.
Tian Peng is the earliest character release we could firmly date. Hpoi records the 1/9 figure at 220 mm, made from PVC, ABS, silicone, and a metal frame, with a January 2, 2025 release. The figure recasts Tian Peng as a woman in a pig's-head hat, and hands her four face plates, interchangeable hands and feet, a rake, a food container, and a stand. That accessory list turns characterization into pose choice rather than leaving it entirely to the sculpt.
Wukong, planned for Japan in September 2026, pushes the idea further with five faces, a long staff, gourd, helmet, adjustable eyes, and a storage base. MILESTONE credits Fish Toys as both planner and maker, and specifies PVC, ABS, metal, and cloth. The helmet, the long tail, and a scarf with wire inside it, included with the first production run, give the figure a sense of movement before you pose a single joint.
Buy by scale and silhouette
The current Japanese list-price evidence runs from ¥17,820 ($120 USD) for the HY-040 Pegasus to ¥29,260 ($195 USD) for the HY-051 Nightmare, with Wukong's regular/list price at ¥20,680 ($140 USD). During this review, BigBadToyStore listed Tian Peng at $159.99; it was sold out at recheck, while 1/12 animal figures and armor remained in stock or on preorder. This is not a single-scale catalog: Ji Le Xi Hang characters are 1/9, while most products shown on BigBadToyStore are 1/12.
That scale split is the useful buying clue. Character collectors can judge Tian Peng or Wukong as self-contained display sets, while diorama builders should verify a mount's dimensions against the figures already on the shelf. Pegasus, for example, opens to about 68 cm across the wings and includes a magnetic horn, so cabinet width matters as much as height. Fish Toys has a visible retail trail but no verified standalone corporate site in the sources reviewed; its founding date, headquarters, and ownership remain open.
