TL;DR
- The oversized bunny-suit figure exists as a format because FREEing built it. The B-style line presents anime characters in classic bunny outfits at 40-50cm tall, creating an instantly recognizable silhouette.
- Distributed through Good Smile Company, FREEing runs its own design and production teams.
- B-style figures retail at roughly 15,000 to 45,000 yen ($100-$300+ USD). Popular characters sell out during pre-order and develop steep aftermarket demand, though FREEing re-releases frequently enough that patience often saves money.
- Display space is the real commitment. At 40-50cm tall, each B-style figure needs a shelf planned before purchase.
One Format, Pursued Completely
Rem in a bunny suit sold out before it reached shelves. Holo from Spice and Wolf became a collector treasure. 2B from NieR:Automata proved the format worked beyond traditional anime. Every one was a FREEing B-style figure: a character presented at one-quarter scale, roughly one quarter of full size, in a classic bunny outfit. At 40-50cm tall, these figures demand more shelf space than many buyers expect.
FREEing has been operating since the mid-2000s out of Yokohama, distributed through Good Smile Company's network but running its own design and production teams independently. The B-style line emerged in the late 2000s and became the product that defined everything. FREEing kept the format narrow, kept iterating, and the catalog did the rest.
The Oversized Bunny Figure Empire
The concept behind B-style is deceptively simple: take beloved anime characters and present them at one-quarter scale in Playboy-style bunny outfits. The size changes everything about the object. These are statement pieces with real manufacturing complexity, and some releases use fabric fishnet stockings for added texture. Paint applications are detailed and clean, sculpt work delivers commanding shelf presence, and later production runs suggest the process keeps tightening.
What FREEing figured out early was that the bunny outfit functions as a versatile character translator. It reads as glamorous on virtually any character, never arbitrary. The franchise list spans Re:Zero, Spice and Wolf, NieR:Automata, Chainsaw Man, NIKKE, and dozens more. Expansions into race queen outfits and gym wear have followed, but the bunny is the product that defines the brand. FREEing also produces solid 1/7 and 1/8 scale standard figures, though those rarely generate the same conversation.
Shelf Space Is the Real Commitment
Key releases include the Erza Scarlet Bunny Ver., credited with igniting the modern bunny craze; the 2B Bunny Ver. from NieR:Automata, which expanded the format's audience; the Rem Bunny Ver., a benchmark for resale demand; and Holo Bunny Ver. from Spice and Wolf, a praised rendition of that character.
FREEing brings figures back into production frequently enough that panic-buying on the resale market is rarely necessary. If you miss the initial preorder period, another chance through retailers often follows. Base warping or leaning has been reported on older releases, though engineering has improved since around 2022. Release delays of six months or more are common.
The real calculation with B-style is shelf space, not price. Plan the display before the purchase. Competition from Chinese manufacturers producing 1/4 scale bunnies at lower price points is growing, but FREEing still owns the format it created.
B-style, Sustained
NIKKE and Chainsaw Man variants are among the recent additions, and reissues keep supply flowing despite US tariff pressure on Japanese imports. FREEing remains synonymous with a product format the company invented.
