COWL Production

The body-first studio turning 1/12 articulation into characters, collaborations, and licensed engineering.

TL;DR

  • A verified Japanese retail listing dates COWL's 1/12 articulated-body collaboration with Romankey to February 2024.
  • Named character releases include Algar from The Last Scion, Jessica Aster from Onwæcnan, and the self-branded CP01 Oni.
  • Japanese list prices in the reviewed catalog run from ¥6,270 to ¥17,600 (about $40-$120 USD).
  • Public corporate details remain limited, but retailer and Hpoi records give the brand a traceable commercial footprint.

The body came first

COWL Production did not start with a character. It started with a body. The Romankey x COWL Super Actional Female Body, a 15.8 cm 1/12 release sold in three skin tones, reached Japanese retail in February 2024. The package included five pairs of hands plus alternate chest and leg parts, establishing customization and pose range as the practical center of the collaboration.

That body-first approach soon acquired characters. The Last Scion introduced Algar, an 18 cm dragon warrior with two heads, a wired tail, a sword, and a flame-breath effect. Onwæcnan's Jessica Aster followed with a deluxe package built around two bodies, three expressions, two hairstyles, and a fabric jacket. The catalog reads less like a sequence of unrelated designs than a steady test of how much character performance can be carried by one small articulated format.

Their joint designs show up in other companies’ figures

CP01 Oni is the first release with COWL Production listed as the only maker, with no collaborator sharing the credit. Its 159 mm body keeps the same engineering emphasis, supported by ten pairs of hands, movable eyes, three face parts, and four chest options. Snail Shell's RPGEX-08 Momiji extends COWL's reach in another direction: the product listing identifies its fully articulated body design as licensed from COWL Production. For a young catalog, having body engineering credited inside another maker's release is a meaningful sign of design value.

The reviewed Japanese list prices run from ¥6,270 for the original collaborative body to ¥17,600 for painted CP01 Oni (about $40-$120 USD). Oni comes in a finished version and a Makeup-Free Edition. HobbySearch files those as CP01 and CP00 respectively, and shows both preorders closed after a January 20, 2026 start. Tokyo Otaku Mode pairs the codes differently, listing a CP01 Oni: Makeup-Free Edition, so check what is in the box rather than trusting the code. COWL is therefore easiest to recommend to articulation-minded collectors who enjoy alternate parts and character customization. Compare the exact edition contents and retailer support before ordering, since the extras account for much of the difference between versions.

The public sources used here do not establish a legal company name, founding date, city, leadership, or standalone official site. Figurepedia welcomes documentation from COWL Production that can make this entry more complete. Until then, the product record tells the clearest story: a body-design specialist moving from collaborative foundations toward a recognizable character catalog.
