Where It Began
Gecco almost didn't happen the way collectors know it. The studio's first planned product, a GANTZ statue recreating the manga's striking door illustrations, fell apart because the team simply didn't have the technical depth to pull it off. A follow-up licensed project featuring a 'famous alien warrior' was cancelled when the licensing partner went bankrupt just as sculpting began. Those forced pivots led Kineo Murakami and his team to Silent Hill, the franchise that defined the brand. Gecco Corp. was established on July 21, 2011, after Murakami left toy distributor Mamegyorai. Based in Higashiosaka, Osaka, the company's name (pronounced 'Gekko') comes from the Japanese word for 'moonlight,' and the studio entered the mass-produced game statue market with detailed releases and broad international reach.
The company name proved prophetic. Their 'Moonlight Project' banner for FromSoftware titles is a direct play on Gecco's own name, creating a fitting identity for their Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring work.
How Gecco Creates Worn, Textured Surfaces
Gecco focuses primarily on 1/6 scale statues. Their finishes give scuffs, wear, and convincing material textures as much attention as the figure's underlying shape. The catalog covers Silent Hill, Berserk, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Dark Souls, and the Cthulhu Mythos. Gecco also produces poseable figures and build-it-yourself model kits, including zombie kits.
International partnerships with Sideshow Collectibles give Gecco broad distribution reach. Gecco also creates alternate editions of the same sculpt with different colors or signs of wear. This gives buyers more display options while allowing the studio to reuse detailed sculpting work. The Berserk Guts and Bloodborne Hunter lines exemplify this strategy.
The GANTZ:O Hard Suit statue is a good example of how far Gecco will go: the team went through the 3D CG film frame by frame, studying how light hit materials in fleeting shots, so that even the back details most viewers never notice could be reproduced accurately. They also run an online store called 'Sweet Factory,' presented as a souvenir shop from Silent Hill's Lake Side Amusement Park.
Budget the Space Before the Money
Gecco figures are display centerpieces, not shelf fillers. The combination of 1/6 scale, elaborate bases, and premium materials means these pieces command space and attention. If your display leans toward FromSoftware, survival horror, or dark fantasy, Gecco is likely already on your radar. These are large pieces, so measure your shelf space before ordering.
Some releases are made in limited batches, and the Sideshow partnership means certain pieces may be available through different sellers depending on your region. Popular Gecco releases, particularly its FromSoftware and Silent Hill work, tend to hold strong resale demand.
