From a Zhengzhou Workshop to a Major Figure Convention
Snail Shell started in June 2016 as a studio making early figure models, founded by a sculptor working under the handle 'Snail.' The company registered formally in June 2019 in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, far from Guangdong, where most Chinese figure brands cluster.
The first original project, Snowdrop Plan (G.N. Series), reached WonderFestival Japan in June 2018 with WOLF 001. Debuting there showed that Snail Shell was building for the international market from day one.
Joints Built for Posing and Armor That Opens
The moving joints and armor are the product. Suit panels open, armor components detach, and the joints support repeated posing. You can open an arm panel, swap a shoulder guard, and reposition the figure in a different combat stance in one sitting. In 2023, the studio completed a Zhengzhou factory that makes its production molds, bringing every production step in-house.
Licensed NIKKE and Punishing Gray Raven figures expanded the catalog beyond originals. An early release reached number two in pre-orders at AmiAmi, a major Japanese retailer. G.N. Project pieces are the most expensive, while the RPG and RA series offer lower-cost starting points.
Open the Panels, Swap the Parts
Pick up a Snail Shell figure and actually pose it. Open the panels, swap the components, and experiment with what the joints allow. For collectors who enjoy reposing and swapping parts, that hands-on experience is the appeal.
Check which series a release belongs to before setting expectations. Prices vary widely because the series are very different. Retailers in both Japan and China carry the line, so international buyers have options.
